Forest Issues Conference

Pennsylvania's Forest Resources: Assessing Its Condition

April 26 and 27, 2005
The Pennsylvania State University
Nittany Lion Inn
University Park, PA

The 2005 Penn State School of Forest Resources Issues Conference will explore the state of Pennsylvania's forests based on the recently completed field inventory by the U.S. Forest Service.

The U.S. Forest Service started collecting and reporting data on the condition of Pennsylvania forests in the 1950s. Fifty-five years later it is time to review timber and data trends regarding forest overstory, understory, regeneration, and health. Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) data is a useful guide when practitioners understand its practical limits. What do forest resource managers, landowners, and the forest products industry need to know to manage Pennsylvania's forest resources?
