Parking:
Bus and car parking is available on the side of the road.
Public Access:
Tours are available and are scheduled in advance with the USDA Forest Service. Schools welcome.
Trail Conditions:
Trailheads are not clearly marked, the trails are well maintained. The terrain is relatively flat.
Signage/brochure:
Numbered interpretative signs identify all stations and describe the treatment applied. Self-guided tour brochures are available through the Forest Service.
History:
The cherry-maple hardwood stand was harvested about 1920 for local tanneries, sawmills, and local chemical wood plants.
Directions:
Take I 80 to Rt 66. After entering Elk County, Rt 66 will join with Rt. 948. When the two roads split, bear left to stay on Rt. 66. Go seven miles and make a right on Old Mill Rd. Travel 0.7 miles crossing railroad tracks and come to a T intersection. Make a right on Highland Rd. Travel 3.2 miles, cross railroad tracks and through village of Lamont (National Fuel pumping station). Take first left onto a dirt road with Forest Service sign "Keep Your Forests Clean." Continue down dirt road crossing railroad tracks and travel one mile to thinning plots on both sides of road.
